KarinthyUtazás Faremidóba / Capillária

Hungarian · Frigyes Karinthy

Gulliver’s fifth and sixth voyages, to a world of singing machines and an empire ruled by women.

The opening, set exactly as it reads in the app.

In 1916, with Europe tearing itself apart, Karinthy sent Gulliver on a fifth voyage: to Faremido, a world of serene machines who speak in music and regard organic life as a disease, a book about artificial minds written a century early. Five years later, a sixth voyage: to Capillária, an undersea empire ruled by women, where men are kept and the old war between the sexes turns literal. Darker, and just as sharp. Both novels are short and startlingly modern, and both are getting their first new English translation in a century. The guided edition holds them both.
